A prototype of the 2019 Chevy Malibu has been spotted once again. The new testing vehicle features significantly less camouflage than earlier, so it’s a lot easier to anticipate what’s going to be different on the updated sedan.
Judging by the new spy shots, the refreshed 2019 Malibu will feature a totally new front end. Upfront, the vehicle hosts a redesigned grille with new slats which appear to be wavy. The cool changes continue on sides of the front where the sedan sports a pair of totally new and more aggressive headlights with chrome treatment. Below, Chevrolet has added restyled fog lamps, which are LED-treated too.
Around back, the facelifted car gets a few new details as well. There are slightly revised taillamps, while the back bumper sports narrower and wider exhaust tips. The carmaker hasn’t changed anything on the profile of the car, which is logical because we are talking about the mid-cycle update. Though, they might add a few new paint options and perhaps a new wheel design when the production-ready model arrives.
We have nothing on sedan’s interior changes at the moment. However, Chevrolet will probably add updated infotainment and a few new tweaks to the dashboard. Plus, they won’t miss the chance to improve Malibu’s driver assistance.
The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu will stick to the current engine options. However, some of them will be tweaked just a little bit in order to deliver a bit better performance. The base sedan will continue to use the untouched version of the 1.5-liter turbo which delivers 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of twist. The more potent option will use a 2.0-liter turbo with 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet. The engine will likely deliver pretty much the same output. However, the carmaker will reportedly try to improve its efficiency with some new technologies.
On the other hand, the 2019 Malibu Hybrid will continue to use the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine.
