2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Spotted Redesigned: The SUV Gets Hybrid Drivetrain and Larger Footprint

Sweden is the most visited destination this winter without any doubt. Well, there may be no big number of tourists at the moment, but there are plenty of car prototypes. Yes, most of the car manufacturers are testing their future models in the cold Scandinavian country, so we are getting a bunch of pictures every day. Today, our spies have managed to catch a prototype of the next-generation Hyundai Santa Fe. The redesigned mid-size SUV won’t be introduced before 2018, so this appears to be the first testing for the future vehicle. The guys that spotted the 2019 Santa Fe have said us that the crossover had no trouble on the snowy road, but we were more curious what’s beneath the heavy camouflage.

Exterior and Interior Changes

Well, according to them, the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is definitely getting several additional inches. It also features a few more inches between the front and rear wheels, which will probably enable more space inside. Still, the roomier interior won’t be the only new thing that the mid-size crossover gets inside. No, the carmaker would also add more luxurious details and Hyundai’s latest infotainment system.

The camouflaged prototype gets a completely new exterior styling. The vehicle that we managed to catch sports just a temporary rear end, so we can’t say anything precisely about it. The rooflines are also unchanged at the moment, but this is going to change when the crossover hits the production lines. On the other hand, the front end appears to have several new details. If you look more closely, you will be able to see pretty much the same grille as the carmaker showed with the Elantra GT. This might become Hyundai’s trademark for the future lineup. The prototype sports redesigned lights as well. There are separate aggressive headlights and more rounded daytime running lamps below. The new bumper is positioned lowered than before and features larger air intakes.

2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Gets More Power, Better MPG, and A Hybrid Powertrain

Under the hood, the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe will probably keep the same V6 engine. However, the option will likely get some extra power and better fuel economy numbers. As a matter of fact, the efficiency will be improved for sure because the new generation Santa Fe gets the improved platform. The car manufacturer won’t introduce the new architecture, but the updated one will likely shed some weight from the SUV and will definitely boost the driving dynamics. The seven seats SUV won’t come alone of course. The carmaker will introduce the completely redesigned 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport as well. The smaller five-seat model will continue to use its amazing 2.0-liter turbo-four, which should be able of producing around 250 horsepower, which is 10 ponies more from today’s model. These two versions won’t be everything from Hyundai’s mid-size SUV. No, they will definitely introduce the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid as well. We can’t say for sure what’s going to be under the hood of the future hybrid SUV, but we think it will be very similar to the Sonata Hybrid. Of course, the Santa Fe Hybrid will probably have more power.

The testing model we caught is just a start. The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport prototypes will likely show a few more times before the official debut. This means that we should find out more in the coming months. After all, the winter ends soon, so the next testing models should get a thinner suit from today.
