2020 CADILLAC ESCALADE: REDESIGN AND CHANGES

Here is some great news. Cadillac is working on a new generation Escalade and we have plenty of details that regard the full-size SUV. The completely redesigned vehicle won’t be introduced for another two years for sure, so you can expect the 2020 Cadillac Escalade in the “best-case” scenario.

According to the information we have, the 2020 Escalade will keep its body-on-frame architecture. Though, the existing and outdated solid-rear axle won’t be a part of the SUV. Instead, the high-riding large vehicle will likely rely on the independent rear suspension and air suspension. You probably know countless benefits from this switch. However, our first impression is that the SUV finally gets lowered flat cargo floor. Welcome to the 21st-century Escalade!

The fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade will get a new engine as well. Today’s thirsty 6.2-liter V-8 mill will get a worthy replacement, which will reportedly develop around 500 horsepower or even more. The power will come from an upcoming 4.2-liter twin-turbo DOHC V8 engine, that’s going to be mated either to the rear or all four wheels, depending on what the potential buyer wants. In contrast to the existing eight-speed auto gearbox, the engine will be paired with a new 10-speed transmission. Cadillac’s full-size SUV will allegedly feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well, but we don’t know the details at the moment.

What we know for sure is that the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will borrow plenty of details from the Escala concept sedan unveiled at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours. Even though it’s pretty hard to imagine the SUV with sedan’s styling cues, the new design language will definitely make the Escalade ultra-attractive and smooth, especially inside. Plus, the flagship will probably host plenty of semi-autonomous technologies.

The base, short-wheelbase new generation Escalade will be hit the U.S. dealerships before the end of 2019 with a starting price a little bit south from $75k. However, the new long-wheelbase version should wait a little bit longer, probably the 2020 spring. The price of the fully-loaded ESV Platinum might be a bit over $100K.
