2020 Hyundai Maxcruz: A New Eight-Seat SUV Spied Outside

Hyundai is making a new SUV. The future vehicle will occupy the full-size segment and will reportedly offer eight seating positions. In case you’ve forgotten, the South Korean car manufacturer had a similar model before. Yes, the Veracruz nameplate may ring a bell or maybe not, because the SUV was not too successful and it has been dead for a long. However, even though they are making a similar model, the new car is not going to use the nameplate. Instead, the producer is reconsidering to name it the 2020 Hyundai Maxcruz. The nameplate is not all new either, but it has more chances than the Veracruz.

Engine Options

No matter how it’s going to be named, the 2020 Hyundai eight-seat SUV is going to be ready by the end of the next year or earlier. The full-size vehicle will share the platform with Kia’s large Telluride. The architecture will underpin all-wheel-drive only, though there will be different engine options mated to the AWD. This testing vehicle, for instance, is using an oil-burner mill. We know that thanks to the intercooler that’s peaking beneath the grille. The option has to be a 2.2-liter CRDi which is capable of delivering around 200 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The full-size SUV will definitely host a gasoline engine as well. Hyundai could use a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, though some sources indicate that the unit could be mated to an electric motor and that the hybrid could produce 400 horsepower. That makes sense because this way the 2020 Hyundai Maxcruz can compete with the Expedition and Suburban SUVs, which are basically the biggest rivals of the upcoming vehicle.

What’s Beneath The Camo

The 2020 Hyundai eight-seat SUV is going to share some distinctive details with the new Kona crossover. More precisely, the camouflage hides almost identical grille and split headlights, while the rear hatch could use the same taillights as well. On the other hand, the bodywork of the SUV is totally new for sure. The Maxcruz appears to be bulkier than the Santa Fe and features a quite boxy design, which is going to provide enough interior space for sure. We can’t really say what dimensions the future full-size SUV from Hyundai has, but it doesn’t look smaller than the new Ford Expedition for sure. Judging by the spy shots, the testing vehicle is using 18-inch wheels and we think that this could be the starting number of the production model too. The rear bumper is camouflaged at the moment, though we see a pair of exhaust pipes there.

Features

Even though it’s pretty far from the official arrival, we can say what’s going to be offered inside of the large SUV. The carmaker will likely use the same or updated infotainment system as it used for the new Kona. The system is easy-to-use and simple and offers standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. In addition, they won’t miss the chance to enrich the SUV with a range of driving aids including automatic braking with pedestrian detection.

Estimated Price

The 2020 Maxcruz SUV (or whatever it’s going to be named) is not going to be ready before 2019, so it’s too early to say how exactly is going to cost. However, the carmaker will probably keep it close to the biggest competitors, which is slightly over $50K.
