2021 Acura TLX Spied Facelfted, Gets New Hybrid Powertrain

The new Acura TLX is set to bring the Acura brand, which has slipped behind the competition in recent years, to a revival. The all-new TLX is Acura’s future and incorporates the visual language for all Acura products in the future. Before later this year, this thrilling car is not set to reach dealerships, but a pre-production version spotting rolling around gives us an indication of how the upcoming luxury sedan from Acura looks in the real world.

The 2021 Acura TLX promises to offer Acura enthusiasts something to get excited about thanks to new engine options, a revised platform, and improved driving dynamics. The based model TLX now uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces a respectable 272 horsepower and routes power through an optional all-wheel-drive system.

Acura is also bringing back the high-performance Type-S trim level which uses a turbocharged V6 engine that benefits from the experienced NSX supercar engineering team. Acura has yet to reveal the final power figures for the Acura TLX Type-S, but expect a figure over 350 horsepower.

Honda’s luxury department is working on the refreshed TLX sedan. We know that because we managed to catch the prototype already. Now, the testing model is still heavily wrapped, so there is little for seeing. Still, our reliable source claims that there will be plenty of borrowed details from the interesting Acura Precision Concept, which isn’t too bad at all. This way, the 2021 Acura TLX could actually become more handsome and aggressive at the same time.

The camo hides the front end, yet we can clearly see the all-new mesh grille and headlights borrowed from the above-mentioned concept. The headlights are merged with the grille and notably larger, while the bumper seems so brawny. The rear end is completely hidden, but we still expect some changes, on the hatch, taillights, and bumper.

The prototype sports unchanged wheels, yet we are pretty convinced that the production model will get the all-new allows, as well as a bit more pronounced fenders. TLX’s interior is already really cool, but the refresh will make the cab even more luxurious without any doubt. Except for better quality materials and some fine leather all around, the Japanese car manufacturer would also redesign the dash and some new tech. Of course, Honda’s safety department won’t miss the chance to upgrade the already impressive sensing system.

The biggest fuss will be under the hood of the luxurious mid-size sedan. This is due to Acura’s deliberation which one hybrid powertrain to offer. They are reconsidering the all-new drivetrain from the MDX and Accord’s newest plug-in hybrid. In either way, TLX’s hybrid future appears to be very bright. Of course, the refreshed model will also offer a base 2.4-liter engine, which should be updated too. Read More
