2019 Mini Cooper E Electric: Spy Shots and Performance Details

So what’s new from Mini for this year? Well, a lot, but the most interesting model for the future is the 2019 Mini Cooper E Electric without any doubt. The testing prototype has been spied a few hours ago for the first time. The EV is currently using the bodywork of the Hardtop model, but that doesn’t mean that the future electric Mini is going to look exactly the same when the production model arrives. Still, until the model shows its real face, we will imagine it as the Cooper. Though, we can see what’s going to power the model right away.

As far as we know, the 2019 Mini Cooper E Electric is going to use pretty much the same powertrain as the BMW i3. The parent company introduced the system not so long ago, so we suppose that there’s not going to be any change at all. The small electric BMW is connected to a synchronous electric motor, which is currently delivering 181bhp and 199lb ft. In case that the future Mini EV has roughly the same weight and dynamics as the i3, it’s going to be able to cross around 186 miles. Still, these are mere assumptions, so let’s wait to see how big the battery is going to host the 2019 Mini Cooper E Electric.

Compared to the regular version of the hatchback, the Mini EV has a redesigned hood and an all-new grille. The regenerative braking system is so obvious down there, while both front and rear bumpers appear to be new as well. The prototype lacks the exhaust pipes which is the clear sign that we are looking into the electric hatchback. Plus, the manufacturer hasn’t bothered to hide the charging port.
