2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD: Redesign Details, Spy, and Teaser

Chevrolet is making its new-gen Silverado HD right now. The pickup truck is not quite ready at the moment, but the carmaker has a pretty good idea of how to make it more attractive. We know that because they’ve released a teaser image a few days ago. Judging by the teaser, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will be one pretty tough-looking truck thanks to the interesting front end.

Upfront, the 2020 Silverado HD features a totally new grille with big “Chevrolet”. We can’t see what’s going on below, so we can’t know how big new air intakes are. Still, regardless of what’s below the grille, we know that the truck won’t lack fresh air thanks to a large hood scoop. Even though we don’t see the whole package, we can guarantee that the detail will be the coolest part of the pickup without any doubt. As for the headlights and taillights, well, we assume they will be borrowed from the new-gen Silverado 1500 because they are pretty interesting and will fir to the bigger brother even better.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will ride on a new platform. The architecture uses plenty of lightweight materials like aluminum, carbon fiber, and high-strength steel, so the curb weight should be significantly reduced. In addition, the pickup will feature a larger footprint for sure. We can’t know how many extra inches will be there, but the spy shots show significantly longer and wider bodywork, so the driver can expect some extra space inside and a definitely larger bed. Moreover, the bed will be additionally increased thanks to a new stamping technique.

The current model offers two engines. The buyers can choose between a standard 6.0L gasoline V-8 with 360 hp and 380 lb-ft and an optional 6.6L Duramax L5P V-8 that delivers 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Both options are mated to a six-speed auto transmission only. The new-gen pickup truck may carry over the engines, but it will definitely change its transmission. Yes, the carmaker will fit the units with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, which has been co-developed with Ford.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD will be introduced early next year at the 2019 North International Auto Show next January. Since there’s plenty of time until then, we will get more information about the HD model, so stay tuned for updates. Moreover, we are pretty sure that there is an all-new GMS Sierra HD somewhere behind the corner and waits to be caught.
