2018 Audi A8 Spy: It Will Be Lighter, More Powerful, Better and Premium Sedan

Audi’s flagship sedan seems to be very close to its debut. The last testing model we saw wears pretty light camo, so we think that the 2018 Audi A8 could arrive in the next several months, possibly early next year. According to reports, the car will be finally ready to compete with its biggest German rivals. And this is not just because of the premium styling and impressive engines, but due to the new technology achievements, which will be incorporated into the fourth-generation Audi A8.

Audi A8 interior details, semi-autonomous driving

The full-size sedan will largely resemble the amazing Prologue concept. But of course, the Audi a8 exterior styling won’t be that smooth and aggressive. The front end sports A4’s headlights and really big and wide “Singleframe” grille. On the other hand, the rear hatch includes more aggressive bumper and very sleek taillights, which are also borrowed from the smaller sibling (A4 of course). We haven’t seen the new Audi a8 interior, and we are pretty sure it will be very luxurious. However, no matter how important that is, we think that Audi’s Piloted Driving technology will be the most important part of the 2018 Audi A8. The amazing system is actually a semi-autonomous driving, which will enable the car to park itself and what’s more important, to autonomously drive itself, but just up to 37 mph. in addition, the German car manufacturer will introduce new infotainment, so-called MMI Touch Response. The system is actually made of several LED screens that will be the replacement for almost all buttons.

 A new platform, impressive engines

The new generation Audi A8 will change its platform too. The mighty sedan will ride on Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo architecture that is already used for the new Q7 and A4 models. The aluminum-intensive architecture will shed some weight from the full-size sedan, but it won’t make in ultra-light as some reports suggest.

Under the hood, the automaker will likely offer three gasoline and one oil-burner. However, the amazing 4.0-liter TDI with 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque won’t be available in North America. Instead, we will see a base 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 that delivers 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The 2018 A8 will also get an updated 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, while the top-dog model is getting the new generation W-12. The impressive 6.0-liter mill will deliver around 600 horsepower. All engines will be matted to a Quattro all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
