Jeep is making some important steps worldwide. The car manufacturer is getting ready to introduce a few all-new models in the upcoming years. The most important projects are big SUVs for the carmaker: they are working on a few of the kind as we speak. Moreover, they just finished one at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. Meet the all-new 2019 Jeep Grand Commander; an SUV that doesn’t lack luxury and space, but it would definitely be a far better option if there would be more power under the hood than it is.
Not that we underestimate the abilities of Jeep’s new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but we would be happier that the carmaker didn’t cut down power and torque. Most of the models were using all potential of the engine which is 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet, but not the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander. Instead, Jeep’s flagship SUV for China gets just 231 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which are powering either standard front- or optional all-wheel-drive system. The engine is exclusively mated to a smooth and efficient nine-speed automatic transmission. We are sure that the turbo-four is not going to be the only available option because the SUV has great potential. Moreover, the carmaker introduced the Yuntu concept recently which has been mated to a hybrid powertrain, and we think that the system could appear under the hood of the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander sometime later.
There’s nothing surprising regarding the exterior styling. The three-row SUV looks pretty as we’ve expected. It sports a massive front-end and a fairly blocky body. The carmaker has borrowed some details from the new Compass, while the rest of it came directly from the Yuntu concept. Altogether, the SUV looks impressive. Inside, the images show plenty of space for passengers, but these are carmaker’s images, so we don’t believe in the fact until we actually try the vehicle. Moreover, the 2019 Grand Commander lack around 4 inches of wheelbase in comparison with the current Grand Cherokee, so you can expect less space divided into three rows. You do the count. Jeep hasn’t explained car’s features so far. However, it appears that there is nothing surprising there. As far as we can see, the cabin fitted with Uconnect infotainment, probably standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems, and the latest safety features.
The three-row crossover SUV will be produced and available in China. The price is unknown at the moment, but we suppose it will mirror the biggest rivals.
